Your photos stay yours.
Your photo library and catalog live on your computer. Here is what leaves it during a review, what we keep, and what Google processes.
Your local library
The companion reads photos from folders you choose. Originals, working previews, descriptions, tags, the search database, exported metadata and file-action history are stored on your computer. Image Chimp is not a cloud backup. Keep your own backups of your photographs and companion workspace.
What leaves your computer
When you start a review, the companion sends a prepared overview and selected detail crops for analysis. Embedded camera metadata is removed from those JPEGs. The image content itself can still contain people, recognizable places or visible text. Original photo files and local folder paths are not sent. A deeper focus check may send additional crops from the same photo.
Our service processes prepared images and returned descriptions in memory. It does not write photo content, tags, descriptions or review results to persistent server storage. A small, bounded memory cache lets an interrupted connection retrieve a recent response for up to 15 minutes. Descriptions and tags awaiting a deeper focus check can stay in a separate bounded memory cache for up to 30 minutes. They are removed when the review finishes, the cache fills, or the service restarts, whichever comes first. There is no hosted photo catalog to retrieve after local data is lost.
Google processes the image evidence
Prepared image evidence is sent to the paid Gemini API. Google states that paid-service prompts and responses are not used to improve its products. Its separate abuse-monitoring policy retains prompts, contextual information and outputs for 55 days. Image Chimp does not promise zero retention by Google.
We request disabled application logging and do not use provider file uploads, saved batch jobs, explicit content caching or search grounding for this workflow. Those choices do not remove Google's abuse-monitoring retention. See Google's data-retention explanation and abuse-monitoring policy.
What Image Chimp keeps
We keep your email address, account and device-access records, credit transactions, subscription and payment references, and operational usage records needed to run the service. Review accounting uses random operation identifiers and cost totals, not filenames or photo descriptions. We also keep support messages you choose to send. Do not send photos or sensitive content in a support request unless it is necessary and agreed.
Stripe processes payments through OK Payments, the checkout and billing service used by OVERKILL INC. Stripe stores payment details. Image Chimp and OK Payments will keep the payment and subscription references needed to grant credits, handle billing and prevent fraud. We do not store complete card details.
Deletion and backups
Delete local photos, exports, and the companion workspace with your own file tools. This does not delete account or billing records and does not cancel a subscription. Cancel in the account billing portal. Contact us to request account deletion or an account-data copy.
Image Chimp service backups contain account and operational records, not your photo library or local catalog. Those backup copies expire within seven days under our current retention schedule. OK Payments backup snapshots use a separate 14-day retention target. These backup schedules do not set the deletion time for active records or apply to records held by Stripe. Account, security, payment and credit records may be retained separately where needed for billing, security, service operation or legal obligations. Google's retention is separate from local deletion and our backup schedule.
Cookies and connected computers
The website uses a session cookie to keep you signed in. No advertising cookies are required. The companion connects only after you approve its matching code in your account. You can disconnect connected computers from the account page. Disconnecting access does not remove files already saved on those computers.
